John Carlo Rosillo is a Filipino director and cinematographer who is passionate about telling stories in a variety of genres, even with limited resources. After immigrating and moving to northern Wisconsin, John Carlo, who prefers to be called Carlo, taught himself various skills including editing and cinematography during his middle school years.
Carlo has worked in various positions in film & tv for national brands, while also dedicating his free time to creating award-winning short films with his production company Story Is Everything. His ultimate goal with his films is to transcend language barriers and use the power of film to establish an emotional connection with his audience, much like the films he watched when he first moved to the US had for him.
"Mending" was created for the 48-hour film festival, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. From the very beginning, our team was passionate about crafting a family film, and we were thrilled to draw the family genre. This project truly became a labor of love, a cinematic love letter to the 1970s.
Our inspiration from the '70s is evident throughout the film. We carefully referenced iconic movies from that era, aiming to capture their unique charm and storytelling techniques. The aesthetic choices we made—from the set design to the costumes—were all influenced by this vibrant decade. Our shooting and editing styles were also crafted to mirror the filmmaking techniques of the time, creating a nostalgic visual experience.
Even the music in "Mending" was composed with a nod to the '70s. We wanted every element of our film to evoke the spirit of the 1970s, and we hope audiences feel the love and dedication we poured into this project.
