Memories of a Tree

Sònia Abella studied Journalism at the Autònoma University of Barcelona. She has a degree in Dramaturgy and Theater Studies from the Sorbonne Nouvelle University of Paris and a Master in Film and Audiovisual from the Louis Lumière of Lyon.
In 1999, she created and directed the Shorts Film Festival inCURT, based on the importance of the collective imagination and audiovisual culture in the construction of Europe and the Mediterranean, within which she launches the pedagogical plan 2nd Century Boys and Girls. In 2000, and for 5 years, she was a member of the Selection Committee of the Sitges Film Festival, where she directed the Catalan Focus and Nova Autoria.
She was co-founder and manager of the Coordinator of Film and Video Festivals of Catalonia (Catalan Film Festivals). She worked for the Centre Régional de la Méditerranée in the production of documentaries. She has been an adviser in audiovisual policy for Barcelona City Council. She is also behind the Cicle Cinema Refugi (Refuge Cinema Series).
In recent years she has worked as Head of Festivals and Pantalla Barcelona at the Barcelona Film Commission. She has been a production assistant in several productions. This is her first experience as a film director.
