Director Statement

“After making experimental short films and suspense, I wanted to discover a new genre as director and screenwriter. This was honestly a very personal project to me. My sister inspired me for this story. She also had a difficult relationship with her father and suffered because of his absence. I also thought about gay people and alternative family concepts and wanted to show that the love between a father and his daughter doesn’t depend on the sexual orientation. Unfortunately, we had many problems and struggles during the production. Everything was set. We had our crew, two shooting days and our two actors. All seemed to be fine but then our actress canceled two weeks before our production was going to start and we had to search for another. We lost one week so we had had only one shooting day instead of two. We were very lucky to find Sinja who came from Berlin down to Essen and, in the end, she was the perfect match for that role.
At our shooting day it was very cold, and we only had a few hours with available light. Unfortunately, our car got broken when we had to move to the second location and all the production team had to go by train. So we lost about 2 or 3 hours in the end and for the last shots we only had 1 or 2 takes. Also the audio didn’t work out well and we had to fix some things in post. Of course it’s not one of the best short films, but all in all I think it’s a nice one and it was a good experience to learn more and make better films in the future.”
