Chen Boyu was born in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China, a northern city with a long history, where he spent a happy childhood. In junior high school, he followed his parents to Shenzhen, a coastal city in southern China. The unfamiliar environment and the unexpected goodbye made Chen Boyu fall into a period of unprecedented confusion and low self-esteem. This situation lasted until one day he accidentally clicked on the movie "Fight Club", from which he fell in love with movies and aspired to become a "dream maker" hiding behind the screen in the future. He is currently studying Moving Image at the University of Sydney.
MEDAL's theme is anti-war, and I hope to use the film to explore the meaning of victory and defeat. Victory is one-sided, temporary and compromised, while defeat and death are eternal and sacred.
MEDAL will be shown through handheld cinematography and long shots. I hope to combine the realistic style of cinematography with the magical reality of the plot, the collision of two different styles will bring the audience a different visual experience. The inspiration for the image style comes to some extent from Jia Zhangke and Lee Chang-dong.
