Mayukh Bhattacharyya – an acclaimed filmmaker, record-holding mimicry artist, and visionary storyteller – was born on March 6, 1999, in Jalpaiguri District, West Bengal, India. Raised in a culturally rich household, with his father, Shri Mihir Chandra Bhattacharyya, a retired Agricultural Extension Officer, and his mother, a homemaker, Mayukh’s artistic passions were nurtured early on, greatly influenced by his maternal grandparents, Lt. Sadhan Chakraborty and Smt. Sandhya Chakraborty.
Mayukh’s journey into the world of cinema began at a young age, driven by his fascination with Bollywood films and the mimicry of legendary comedians like Bhanu Bandopadhyay. By 2021, he set a world record for the fastest mimicry of Bollywood actors in one minute, earning a spot in the International Book of Records and India Book of Records.
Though his academic path led him to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture (2020) and a Master’s in Agronomy (2022) from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, his professors saw his cinematic potential and encouraged him to pursue filmmaking alongside his scientific endeavors. In 2018, while still a student, he co-created his first documentary, Vande BCKV, which achieved numerous accolades on national and international platforms, launching his own production house, Mayukh Bhattacharyya Productions.
In 2023, Mayukh took his creative talents to Malaysia, where he served as a Lecturer in Agronomy at Lincoln University College until March 2024. His filmmaking skills were highly appreciated by the Malaysian community, where he captivated audiences with his unique storytelling. During this time, he directed Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya, a poignant love story music video shot in Malaysia and Jalpaiguri, which beautifully captured the essence of cross-cultural romance.
Alongside his academic career, Mayukh continued to build his filmmaking portfolio. His blood donation awareness film Shonito garnered national recognition at the NACO Film Festival and went on to win multiple international awards. His music video Seher Kobita earned him Best Music Video accolades at both the Tagore International Film Festival and the Indian International Short Film Festival in 2023.
Mayukh’s crowning achievement thus far has been the documentary KUTOKODALO: Farming in the Lepcha World, a moving exploration of integrated farming and women's empowerment within the Lepcha community of Sittong Valley in the Eastern Himalayas.
Currently, as a Young Professional under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, Mayukh continues to push boundaries in cinema, inspired by legends like Satyajit Ray and Shahrukh Khan. His unwavering passion and storytelling brilliance make him a rising star in the world of film and art.
