Aspiring actor and filmmaker who is passionate about providing escapism for people who need it as much as he does.
Matthew Wayne Putnam was born and raised in Bowmanville, Ontario living just outside of Toronto to be in the heart of Canada’s ever-growing film industry. He recently graduated from Toronto Film School's acting program with honours and on the President's List. His time at TFS gave him the opportunity to train as an actor while also giving him the ability to learn how to create his own work through writing, directing, and starring in his own films.
Matt fell in love with acting through theatre after playing the leading man Cliff Bradshaw in Clarington Central Secondary School’s production of “Cabaret”. He was able to continue his theatre actor training through his involvement in Toronto Film School’s production of “The 39 Steps” directed by Jack Grinhaus, as well as John Tench’s online production of “Macbeth” where he played the title role. Matt’s film acting credits include starring as Ted Townsend in Ben Vandermark’s comedic short film “Saved By The Bomb” , which was presented by George Brown and appeared in festivals including TIFF Shorts. He also starred in Vandemark's "Live Combat" as Eric, winning the award for "best ensemble" at the GeekFest Toronto Film Festival.
Recently Matt has taken an interest in writing and directing, producing original films starting with his debut dramatic short film "Bad For Business". The film was presented by Toronto Film School and premiered at the TIFF Bell Lightbox during the TFSFF (winning the award for "best male performance" and receiving two other nominations). Matt's upcoming project, "The Christopher Nolan Experience", will have him writing, directing, and starring in his first feature film.
