A fresh graduate of film directing, having studied at the National University of Film and Theatre „I. L. Caragiale” in his hometown of Bucharest, Romania, Matei Preda tends to explore in a comical manner the bitter-sweet events that compose the inner workings of people. His creative passion got sparked by comic books, graphic novels and manga as well as web comics and cartoons, since the age of 10. All throughout middle school he illustrated slices of life in humorous ways, being posted in various kids magazines, blogs etc. Filmmaking came naturally, as he started filming sketches with his neighborhood friends, having as inspiration his comics. Starting in high school, he began working on directing short films, which in turn got selected worldwide in various teen film festivals.
As of this writing, his short documentary “Iorgu!”, which follows the struggles and motivations of a romanian pro-wrestling champion, got selected and awarded both nationally and internationally.
While his main and true goal is to direct, in film school he discovered he had a knack for production as well, having produced, or taken part in the production of 15 short films, as well as working on other productions outside of university.
