After attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in the footsteps of his Harlem-born grandmother, John's focus has been on art direction, including working at GB65 and Paris-based Studio No 11, and directing commercials for Rosewood Hotels and Four Seasons Resorts. He combines a desire to tell stories with a love for the cathartic power of cinema.
Statement from screenwriter Rae Maddren: Masterpiece developed as an exercise that would allow me to explore gender dynamics and objectification. However, I was determined to present the female lead as anything but a victim; and so I wrote a script for two equally imperfect characters: both Artist and Muse desire power and control; each one takes turns as the oppressor and the oppressed.
