Xiaolin (Linda) is an emerging filmmaker renowned for their unique use of screenplay, blocking and movements in the recent films she directed. The film, characterised by its distinctive styles and storytelling, showcased their potential and has been receiving high feedback from professors.

Director Statement

The production concept of this experimental short film comes from the campus bullying that more or less people have experienced or watched. With the goal of experiencing the inner feeling, the whole film has no verbal interaction but only music and sound effects. In the character design, I chose to show the multi-faceted nature of the event, and I believe that "There isn’t absolute good or bad". The whole movie is biased towards the style of high school combined with the overall depressive atmosphere: the colors are bright but gray. This is to reflect the dark and dishonorable side of the glamorous campus life. refers to the title of the film “Mask Within”, The content is driven by masks on different characters with different meanings. The passersby are more blank, whereas the bullies are more ‘different’ and creative. This is also a hint to our main message that bullies are not accepted in the majority as well.
