I am an independent filmmaker living in Iran. I make social documentaries and short films that focus on the women’s issues.
Mask is my last film that deals with one of the problems of the Iranian women in today’s society.
Due to hijab codes and the pressures from the ruling system in the past 40 years, woman have been afflicted by various complexes and psychotic behaviours that manifest themselves in various forms in their conducts and thoughts. One of the most serious ones in the recent years is doing plastic surgeries in an excessive and phobic way, from body alteration to the complete craniofacial surgery of the face by using lips and cheeks prosthesis, doing nose job, injecting BOTOX, and so on. Some women overdo the surgeries to the extent that their faces lose their natural shape and become deformed and unnatural. The man’s demand cannot be ignored in this phenomenon. In many cases, they encourage the girls and women in their life to do the surgeries to keep up with the vogue.
This short film deals with this problem.
