The Mashariki African Film festival is an annual cultural event that aims at bringing African Films to an African audience.

It consists of films screening and rewarding Rwandan and African Filmmakers and empowering them through workshops and masterclasses offered by local and International specialized professionals. The festival promotes, advocates for and collaborates with other cultural events in different member States of the East African community.

Iziwacu Films:

- Best Feature Film

- Best Actor

- Best Actress

- Best Original Screenplay

The films submitted should:
 Be directed by an African filmmaker and the story relates to Africa
 Not have been completed before 2018
 Not have been submitted in the previous editions of MAAFF
 Be in English or have English/French Subtitles.

• Films made by Non-African Filmmakers with a plot related to Africa will be considered for the Panorama Section.
