Writer Statement

"Mary and Dionysus" touches upon the themes of forgiving oneself and of letting go of the pain of the past. It is a story that shines a light on the complexity of life and the compounded and interwoven relationship between drama and comedy. As we all find out early on in our own journeys, you cannot have one without the other.

Although a deep and intriguing character study, at its core, this story is a romance between two hurt and suffering individuals who find each other and through the complex relationship that they develop, ultimately reconnect with themselves.

This tale is tailored-made for all the souls out there that love passion, romance, drama, and comedy, with a sprinkle of philosophy too. Although it takes place in the South of France, the story can easily translate to any part of the world that features a small town and a country house. The majority of the story indeed takes place in the one location of the house and its surrounding area and features a contained and limited number of characters, so can easily have a budget in the one-to-two-million-dollar range.
