Director Biography - Yana Kulynych

Yana Kulynych is a Ukrainian director, scriptwriter and poet.
She was born in 1999 in Kyiv.

Yana graduated from from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a Bachelor of Philosophy in 2020.
She finished the course in directing and scriptwriting in ProDuck School (curator Dmytro Sukholutkyy-Sobchuk) in 2020.
Yana graduated from Ukrainian Film School in the study program “Directing” in 2021.

Director Statement

That`s a story about sudden loss of control under own life.
About how such things just happen without your permission, without your desire, even without your thought that such a tragedy can come to your life.
But as we all convinced tragedies come to our lives.
And we fight with them. That`s why the composition that Martha plays on the competition of all her life is "Revolutionary Étude" by Fryderyk Chopin. This etude is all about fighting, all about will. Especially now for me as a Ukrainian.
