Karolína Brabcová (*1997) was born in Brno, Czech Republic, where she later graduated from a high school focused on filmmaking. She is currently finishing her studies in directing and screenwriting at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Czech Republic. In her work, she focuses on working with symbols, which she uses to reflect and convey a story that is initially built on emotion. This forces the viewer to carefully observe and seek connections between individual motifs that make up the whole. She oscillates between experimental and poetic creation, which she occasionally disrupts with an unconventional bizarre shot. For each theme, she seeks an ideal and unconventional formal approach. She navigates between genres, and each of her works is a genre hybrid. Her bachelor's film I Was Made From Burning Apples (2020) was selected for the Student Academy Awards semi-finals. In addition to short films, she also operates in the music video scene, where she directed, for example, the music video for the rap song "Mlha" by the 2020 Anděl Award winner Viktor Sheen.
The portrait of a filmmaker and stripper is a revelation of both physical and mental nakedness. What can we learn about ourselves through the portrayed person and their unique approach to life?
Martina is an inspirational woman to me. She never compromises and does things her way, as she likes. At a certain age, she influenced me and helped me to be myself and do things the way I feel and want to do them. Basically, she helped me to go after my goals and face discomfort. In short, not to be afraid of life and not to worry so much about other people's opinions, and much more. The main personal goal of the film is to reveal how honest we can be with ourselves as human beings and how far our boundaries go when it comes to nudity, whether physical or mental. I approach the film not only as a filmmaker but also as a friend. The form follows the content, and therefore, like Martina, the film is composed of fragments of her personality.
