10-year-old Cadu will spend vacations at his cousin's house in the countryside of São Paulo state, there his life will be marked forever. In a dispute over a kite, Cadu runs off and collides with an elderly man who was walking in the street. The old man falls to the ground and, frightened, the boy runs away without helping him. Later that same day Cadu frees Manoel from a scolding by tidying his cousin's room, maturing the relationship between the two. However, Cadu will discover that his selfish act of running away will result in the old man's death. Cadu will have to deal with his guilt.
