Mario Estrada is a Mexican filmmaker based in Italy since 2020, focusing on stories of social impact that blend fiction and documentary.
His work includes Sotto lo Stesso Tempo (2022), presented at the 39th Turin Film Fest and awarded a special mention at the Nastri D'Argento, and Fragile (2023), screened at Documentaria 2024 and in competition at the 31st Libero Bizzarri Festival.
In 2023, he won the Gianandrea Mutti Award at the Rome Film Festival for his short film Manifesta Infondatezza. He later directed A Hundred Rolls of Film (2024) in Nanjing as part of the Looking China project.
In 2024, he developed Madre Cumbia during the Kultur Ensemble - Villa Salis residency, supported by Institut français d'Italie, Goethe-Paris Institut Palerme, and other cultural institutions.
