Director Statement

Marina is a result of my musings on two problems that intrigue me as a filmmaker and film lover. First one being a romanticized public perception of a film director (or any other great artist) as an almost mythological being who is allowed all kinds of transgressions against common decencies and social norms of behavior if the end product of their labor, in this case - film is deemed culturally and historically important. The second idea I tried to expand upon with this film is: in this day and age, when not only have we all been to "the sausage factory" and had a behind the scene look at how the "great illusion" is being manufactured, but have ourselves been dabbling in some form of filmmaking by recording videos with our smartphones and uploading them to our social media accounts, how and why do we still believe in and accept the images that are being presented to us from cinema screens and our TV sets? Why do we still, without much consideration, agree to suspend our disbelief and go for a ride?
