Before finally embracing his long dreamed career as an independent filmmaker, Arshak Amirbekyan graduated from the Yerevan State University as a journalist. He began working as a criminal reporter in Yerevan, and then as a designer and still photographer for advertising agencies and design studios in Moscow. Excited by the progress taking place in the independent film industry and the technological revolution of the digital age, he produced and directed his first film, Three Evenings (Yerek Yereko) in Yerevan in 2010. It had a considerable run in the film festival circuit and is currently distributed by Indie Rights on Amazon and other streaming platforms.
Mariam's Day off, Arshak Amirbekyan's second film project went into preproduction in the Spring of 2013 and was completed by the end of 2016.
