Marere Fest's main objective is to promote and screen feature films related to art in any of its major artistic forms (cinema, painting, sculpture, architecture, music, dance, literature, and their derivatives), as well as other audiovisual and cinematic works that bring culture closer to the public.

The first edition of Marere Fest will be held from March 18 to 23, 2025, in Jávea. The central location will be the Jayan Cinema, located at C/ Santísimo Cristo del Mar 14, CP 03730 Jávea (Alicante).

The jury will grant the following awards:

Best film in the official section – €3,000

Best film in the “Mirades Regionals” section – €1,500

Audience Award for Best Film at Marere Fest – €500

Also Marere Fest will pay a 250€ fee for all qualified movies

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Objective

Marere Fest's main objective is to promote and screen feature films related to art in any of its major artistic forms (cinema, painting, sculpture, architecture, music, dance, literature, and their derivatives), as well as other audiovisual and cinematic works that bring culture closer to the public.

Dates and Venue

The first edition of Marere Fest will be held from March 18 to 23, 2025, in Jávea. The central location will be the Jayan Cinema, located at C/ Santísimo Cristo del Mar 14, CP 03730 Jávea (Alicante).

Requirements

General Requirements
The feature films submitted for selection must meet the following requirements:

Produced after January 1, 2024
duration between 60 and 120 minutes
Works of fiction, animation, biopic, or documentary
National or international works
The works must be presented in their original version. If the language is not Spanish or Valencian, they must be submitted with Spanish subtitles.

Official Section

In addition to the general requirements, the works submitted to the official section must meet the following conditions:

Produced after January 1, 2024

Not have been released in commercial theaters before the celebration of the first edition of Marere Fest
The works may have been screened at other festivals or events

The main theme or a significant part of the work must be related to any of the Fine Arts or their derivatives, such as cinema, painting, dance, music, sculpture, architecture, literature, photography, theater, etc.

“Mirades Regionals” Section

In addition to the general requirements, the works submitted to the "Mirades Regionals" section must meet the following conditions:

The works may have been screened at other festivals or events, as well as in commercial cinemas, within six months prior to the celebration of Marere Fest.
The works must be produced in the Valencian Community, Catalonia, or the Balearic Islands and have been filmed in the co-official languages of these regions.

The theme is open.

Participation and Registration

To participate in the first edition of Marere Fest, it is essential to register the film on one of the following platforms where the festival is listed:

No other means of registration or physical copies will be accepted. The costs associated with the use of these platforms will be borne by the producer or representative of the work who registers it.

The registration period begins on 01/09/2024 and ends on 18/01/2025. There is no limit to the number of works per author or representative that can be registered for the festival.

Selection

The festival organization members will select the works that will compete in the festival from all the submissions. The decision in this regard is final.

The representatives of the selected works will be informed of their participation, which they must confirm within one week from the notification and proceed with the submission of promotional and screening materials.

All selected works screened at Marere Fest will receive €250 as copyright royalties. This amount will be paid after the festival, and the director, representative, or producer holding the rights to the work must issue an invoice to the festival organization for the amount of €250, including VAT.

The Marere Fest organization will make the official announcement of the selected works. Until this announcement is made, no dissemination by the representatives or interested parties of the selected works is allowed.

Promotional Materials

For the proper promotion and creation of the Marere Fest catalog and website, selected works will be required to provide the following materials:

Trailer in DCP and mp4 format

High-quality poster of the film
Technical sheet and synopsis of the film in Spanish and the original version
List of awards and selections at other festivals
Press kit of the film
Promotional photographs

Screening Materials

The format for screening works in the theater will be in high-definition Digital Cinema Package (DCP) that must comply with DCI standards. The DCP will remain at the disposal of the Marere Fest organization until the conclusion of the festival.

The copy sent to Marere Fest must be certified beforehand to ensure proper functioning and audio/video synchronization.

If the copy requires KDM keys for its screening, they must be provided to the organization one week before the screening date with an unlock window of at least 72 hours before the start of Marere Fest and 24 hours after its conclusion. These keys will be provided at no cost to the Marere Fest organization.

The DCP copy must be in the original production version and subtitled in Spanish if this is not the production language or Valencian.

Shipping of Materials

Shipping and transport costs of the materials for selected works to the Marere Fest organization will be borne by the representative, director, or producer of the work. The Marere Fest organization will not cover these costs under any circumstances.

The DCP for screening can be sent electronically or physically. In the case of physical shipment, the associated costs will also be the responsibility of the work's representatives.

Exhibition of Films

During Marere Fest, the organization will determine the order and specific dates for the screening of each work. Once participation is confirmed, a work cannot be withdrawn or premiered in theaters before its screening at Marere Fest.

Presentation

The authors or artistic team of the selected works for screening during Marere Fest will be invited to present their work to the public if they wish. This session will take place on the screening day before the projection. Marere Fest will cover accommodation and per diem costs for representatives from outside the Valencian Community up to a maximum of €300 per team.

Jury

Marere Fest's organization will appoint the jury members under the following conditions:

The jury will consist of at least 3 members representative of the film or art field.

No jury member may have any relationship with the competing works.

The jury may declare any award void.

The jury's decision is final.

Best film in the official section – €3,000

The monetary prize for each award will be given to the producer who registered the winning work.

To receive the prize, the producer must issue an invoice for the corresponding amount (VAT included) to the Marere Fest organization.

Festival Image Inclusion

Works that win any of the Marere Fest awards must include a reference to that award at the beginning of the copies distributed to other festivals or commercial theaters, as well as in the media.

The reference will consist of text with the festival's logo and the awarded prize, which will be provided by the festival organization.

Acceptance of Terms

By registering a work for Marere Fest, the representative accepts all the terms described.

The terms may be modified due to force majeure. Any change or modification will be notified to the interested parties by the Marere Fest organization.
