Experiencing Interruptions?

Manyala: The waste collector

Isiah Odhiambo Manyala is a 28-year old entrepreneur who decided that something needed to be done to tackle the growing amounts of solid waste being discarded in his neighbourhood. There, in the Obunga informal settlement in Kisumu, neither sanitation nor sustainable solid waste management infrastructures are provided. Though they find their own solutions to creating safe and healthy environments, its home-grown waste-pickers face many challenges. Isiah and the young people with whom he works have now begun advising the local government of Kisumu County Directorate of Climate Change on how communities can help their city to manage waste sustainably, to support their health, their environment, and their livelihoods.
