Director Biography - Erik Gen

Erik Gen is a pseudonym for Oliver Roeger, a senior instructor for Graphic Design (Digital Media) at the University of Illinois Chicago.

Originally from Germany, with a Swiss design degree, he has been living in the US since 2000 and researching AI intensively since summer ‘22.

He also curates a website with AI artist friends from around the world at de-generated.com

Director Statement

AI tools allow a very improvised and spontaneous creation process overall. Assets can be generated so quickly that replacing segments is possible until the very end. Phases such as preproduction, production and post production become fluid and intertwined. I believe this is truly unique to AI.
