Director Biography - Roxana Baloiu

20 year old independent filmmaker Roxana Baloiu, born in Bucharest, Romania, moved to Montreal, Canada at the age of 2. Living in a multicultural environment, she explores the blending of different languages into one driving story line. Having worked on numerous student and independent film productions, she's currently studying Film Production at Concordia University in Montreal where she creates diary short films by blending personal archives with fiction.

Director Statement

Mancacioasa is a very personal found footage student film that explores the psychological effects of “Fat Shaming”. This piece is a poetic representation of someone’s inner thoughts who has been struggling with obesity all her life. It represents everything that goes through someone's mind when thinking about this topic. “Mancacioasa” is a word in Romanian that is used as a loving was of saying a child likes to eat.
