Tessie Garduño is a Mexican filmmaker, graduate of UAB (Barcelona). She also studied Film and Media in Germany and France. These international experiences have influenced her projects by focusing in "universal" stories. She has worked as screenwriter and editor in documentaries and short films. She had her debut as Director in the short film "Monkey's Paw" in 2018.
Street harassment is often overlooked and classified as “exaggeration”, as something normal. But even if it is normal, why should something like that be accepted if it makes another person feel unsafe, disgusted and scared?
I’m Tessie Garduño, director of “Mamacita”. I spent my college years in Spain and Germany and when I came back to Mexico, I was shocked. I got used to wear anything I wanted without fear of being intimidated in the street, but in Mexico City, the situation was different.
I believe we, as Filmmakers, have both the great chance and responsibility to create change. With “Mamacita”, I brought together passionate people who love this project and want to see a change. By exposing this subject, we want to open a dialogue with the audience. To show what’s happening and how bad it is. This way, we can as society, look for solutions.
“Mamacita” is a short film for people tired of harassment, violence and crime. I hope you enjoy this short as much as we enjoy making it.
