MAMA I’M CHASING A GHOST is a story about reflection, responsibility, and the silent battles of growing up. At its core, it’s about Ismail—a boy faced with the loss of his bicycle, the very thing that symbolized his freedom. But more than that, it’s about his internal struggle, whether should he solve this problem alone, or should he accept his mother’s help?

I, Ahmad Uzeir Farhan, was drawn to this story because it captures a moment that many of us have lived through—the first time we are forced to question our independence. As children, we believe that doing things on our own defines strength. But growing up means understanding that strength also comes from knowing when to accept help.

Visually, I wanted the film to feel intimate and immersive, letting the audience experience Ismail’s frustration, pride, and eventual realization. Natural lighting, restrained performances, and a grounded approach to storytelling were key in shaping this world.

Through MAMA I’M CHASING A GHOST, I hope to spark a conversation about responsibility, not just in a practical sense, but in the emotional weight it carries. This isn’t just Ismail’s story—it’s all of ours.
