Mama

Mama is an action, drama, and thriller short film. Eileen Shepard, a 50-year-old mother who is a cashier at the local gas station, and Byron Shepard, a 25-year-old son who's the neighborhood drug dealer, are the main characters living in the small rural town of Pelham, NC. Eileen is a grieving mother who lost her son Byron to an alleged suicide. In the beginning, you can see Eileen lying in bed and quickly shifting to the kitchen, where she looks at Byron's photos on her phone; Eileen grieves from depression, and it looks as if she hasn't slept in days. Byron's shadow still seems to follow her while walking to her room. Byron says Mama, adding to her delusional thought process. In the middle of the show, Eileen pulls up to the house he had purchased for both of them. Eileen visualizes the day Byron takes her to the house and surprises her. Once Eileen entered the home, she saw Byron. Byron lifts Eileen's spirits, only to tear Eileen down, describing how horrible of a mother Eileen is. Eileen storms out of the house and goes back to her other home. Eileen attempts to remove all of Byron's belongings, such as clothes, photos, etc. Eileen finds a pill bottle before she breaks down and thinks of attempting suicide herself. Once again, Eileen sees Byron. Byron encourages Eileen to commit suicide. Eileen soon realizes this isn't Byron speaking but questions whether it is him, still unsure. Eileen eventually visualizes a happy Byron and puts the pills down. Eileen Overcomes the depression, gets help, and defeats the illusions of Byron.

Director Biography - Harold Doe

I first got into filmmaking when my cousin began making music. I never shot the videos, but I would attempt to devise creative ways to shoot them.
Though he never took my advice, I decided to shoot videos myself. Many years later, inspired by that idea, I joined the Los Angeles Film School, where I directed my first film, titled.
"MAMA.

Director Statement

I chose to write and direct this film because I wanted to share some truths of a reality many people do not have any experience with. While watching this film, I wanted the viewers to experience the life of a drug dealer and how it affects everyone around them. Some of the challenges while making this film were acting, cinematography, sound person, etc... I had to do it all, even instructing the main character on what I needed from her. She has never acted a day in her life. But I got it done. The work of the power writer Courtney A. Kemp and director Rob Hardy inspired me. Working with the actress was special because I got to shoot a movie with my mom, and this was our first time acting. This film will always be special to me because it is my first film, whether a feature or short film. It's my first film, and I'm proud of myself.
