The Malta Short Film Festival is now in its 15th edition. It brings together films of different genres from around the world. But its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is broadcast on TVM, Malta’s national TV station. The films are discussed and adjudicated by a panel of judges. This enables the filmmaker and the viewer to understand the production value of each entry and its ability to communicate with its audience.

The final program consists of an awards giving ceremony which is filmed towards the end of September.

Festival has a widespread audience, 30,000 +

Trophies in various categories: Best Screenplay. Best Foreign Jury Award, Best Director. Best Cinematography. Best Film. Best Editing. Best Documentary. Best Drama. Best Comedy. Best Animation. Best Actor, Best Actress. Best Sound Design. Best Art Design. Special Mention Awards.

Films should not exceed 15 minutes in duration. The festival holds the right to air the selected films on TVM, Malta’s national television public broadcaster.

Had a great time, lovely venue, everyone was really helpful and met some really nice people. The Awards ceremony was in Maltese but there were headsets with a translator which meant no-one was left out. It was all very well organised, and later there was a great face to face feedback. Would Highly recommend this Festival.
