Makun (don't cry)

Immigratnts Detention Centers (IDCs) are prisons for innocents, and that is why our governments hide them from us. Having been able to document thousands of drawings on the walls of one of these IDCs (in the Canary Islands), MAKUN narrates several stories about dreams (a better life) and nightmares (dangerous journeys and confinement in IDCs upon arrival in Europe), animating the drawings made by hundreds of anonymous hands and with the testimony of three immigrants and Human Rights activists.

Director Biography - Emilio Martí

Emilio Martí (Valencia, 1978) is a filmmaker, animator and art therapist, and he often uses film and animation as a means for therapy. Many of his works are done collaboratively, and have a social theme. Each of his works has an apparent different visual style although they all share a base taste for experimentation and underground, and they all deal with social issues, such as internalised LGTBfobia (DESANIMADO) the right to refuge (MARHABA) or Immigration Detention Centers (MAKUN, a documentary that animates the drawings found on the walls of an IDC in the Canary Islands).

Emilio Martí (Valencia, 1978) es animador, educador y arteterapeuta. Su trabajo es reivindicativo, experimental y trata temáticas sociales, a menudo de forma colaborativa. Entre sus películas en solitario están DESANIMADO (2011), comedia sobre el miedo a “ser normal” y el documental MARHABA (2016), hecho con niños sirios en un campo de refugiados de Grecia. MAKUN (NO LLORES) es también un documental de animación hecho a partir de los dibujos encontrados en las paredes de un Centro de Internamiento de Extranjeros en Canarias, y con testimonios de personas migrantes.
