Making Waves Film Festival supports and exhibits pioneering work by international talent and local independent film-makers; maximising opportunities to develop skills in film-making, distribution and events.

Now in its seventh year, the Making Waves Short Film Competition will be open for entries from Friday April 27 and encourages entries from local, UK and International filmmakers.

For 2018, the 'Local' category includes filmmakers from the Southern England counties of Hampshire and its surrounding counties: Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, and West Sussex.

In 2017, the prestige judges were Tony Newton (Vestra Pictures), Ron Valderama (Stream Now TV) and Elki Yates (Southampton Film Festival). 2018 Judges will be announced soon.

The shortlisted films will be screened in November at a gala event at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

The Making Waves Film Festival is managed by TrashArts Portsmouth, an artistic community with a vision that has put people before profit since 2007.

Trophies will be awarded at the gala event. Certificates and Laurels will be awarded for shortlisted films.

This was my first proper festival experience and first time being nominated for an award. We came 2nd in our category and it was a really cool experience and was great to see the films made by talented locals as well as people from further afield and all over the world. Definitely intend to be back next year!

A really lovely, well run festival that's a joy to attend. I was lucky enough to have one of my films shortlisted and attend the screening and awards ceremony and was really impressed by the high standard of films and the effort put into the evening.

I'd highly recommend submitting and attending!

Been twice to the festival, once as a film fan, next as a filmmaker. Terrific event with great communication from the festival. Welcoming to my team and had a fantastic audience. The Summoner took home two awards on the night. Huge thanks from The Summoner team.
