Mailman
This project comments on the passivity of the masses to the apparent destruction of their environment (that which surrounds them), and the normalization of the depressing circumstances in which they find themselves in, doing nothing to influence them and instead limiting themselves to the bare minimum of efforts and unsatisfying possible conditions within the program that naturally discards them or treats them as dispensable.
This work intends to achieve this by painting a simple portrait of a mailman living in an apparent dystopian hellscape, although this seems to go unnoticed by anyone living in said space. None of them ever comment their living condition and treat it quite normally, just as you and me would go buy groceries, running normal day lives as usual.
Rafael Maria wakes up and before heading to work smokes a cigarette by his apartment’s entrance. After arriving at the post office, he picks up his packages and heads out to a long day of work. While out on the job he meets Madalena Castro who is advertising for a environmental campaign. They have a small, not so friendly, chat where Rafael challenges and critiques the manfulness of their efforts. Both go on their Mary way. Continuing with his deliveries Rafael finds an old friend whom which he ends up having dinner with. They talk about life and how they have fared since they last met. On the last delivery of the day he meets Madalena, they have another chat where Rafael redeems himself for being so hostile the last time they met. Rafael Maria returns home after a long day’s work.
