After a very successful screen-writing contest last year, we've decided to really up our game this year and add a few new competitions and cash prizes!
All of our contests are for works in the horror genre. This includes psychological thrillers, horror-comedy, slasher, splatter, grindhouse, mumblegore, monster movies, paranormal/supernatural thrillers, horror-dramas, etc...
However, we DO NOT accept fan films. We feel that those kind of films are infringing on someone else's magic!
THE BI-MONTHLY FILM CONTEST:
A new round of submissions begins every two months. At the end of each round we pick the best over-all films in the Short and Feature categories. The winning films of each round will go on to compete as finalists in the Best of Series contest that will be announcing the winners in August 2018.
We recognize that it takes a lot of different elements to make a great horror film, so every month a winner will be chosen among all the submitted films (regardless of length) for the Spotlight Category award! Spotlight winners will be selected only on the merit of the featured category each round, so any film that is strong in that aspect is a contender! (In other words, any of the Bi-Monthly Winners won't necessarily also be the Spotlight Category Winner.)
We do this because we know that film is a collaborative medium and every production team has its strengths and weaknesses. If a film does a fantastic job in one department while not-so-great in others, we feel that it should be recognized for what makes it really stands out.
The Bi-Monthly Spotlight Categories:
Round 1 - COSTUME DESIGN (August-September)
Round 2 - PRACTICAL SPECIAL EFFECTS (October -November)
Round 3 - SET DESIGN / SET DRESSING (December-January)
Round 4 - CINEMATOGRAPHY (February - March)
Round 5 - DIGITAL SPECIAL EFFECTS / CGI (April-May)
Round 6 - MUSIC SCORE (June-July)
All bi-monthly film contest winners are notified and announced on our website on or around the 20th of the following month. (August-September winners are announced in October, etc...)
There is also a submission option for feedback in the form of a written review that can be used by the film-maker for promotional purposes. (Selecting this option will not increase your chances of winning, nor does it guarantee a favorable review.) While we try to get feedback out as quickly as possible, please note that any reviews will be sent only after the film has been fully evaluated by one of our critics, which may be several weeks from the time of submission.
TRAILER OF THE MONTH CONTEST
Whether it's the trailer to a completed film or one shot purely to promote a project in the works, we're looking to shine a spotlight on trailers that grab attention and don't let go!
All trailers must be in the horror genre and no more than 3 minutes long. Trailers of the Month are chosen from all entries submitted over a calendar month.
ANNUAL SCREENPLAY COMPETITION:
Our Annual Screenplay Competition for horror scripts returns! This is a yearly contest with winners being announced in AUGUST 2018.
Feature (50-100 pages)
Short (Under 50 pages)
All submissions must be in the horror genre. They may be in any horror sub-genre, such as horror-comedy, thriller, creature feature, etc... However, they must be original stories and characters. Fan Fiction, Remakes, and Adaptations are NOT accepted.
We know how important feedback is to writers, so our screenplay competition also has a submission option for feedback that includes detailed judge's notes. (Selecting this option will not increase your chances of winning.) All of the judges for our screenplay contest are award-winning writers who will give notes and suggestions where they feel the strengths and weaknesses are in a script. While we try to get feedback out as quickly as possible, please note that feedback will be sent only after the script has been fully evaluated by one of our judges, which may be several weeks from the time of submission.

All submitters must be at least 18 years of age.
Entry fees must be in U.S. dollars. All entry fees are non-refundable, even in the case of disqualification or withdrawal of an entry. There are no exceptions to this policy. Films and screenplays that do not follow the rules will be disqualified, so please ask any questions before submitting.
All entries must be in English or have English subtitles.
Winning laurels and cash prizes are sent to the submitter only. If there is more than one producer/director or writer, it is up to them to agree on how to divide and share any monetary awards.
All entries must be sent via FilmFreeway. Please do not send DVDs, BluRays, or any downloadable files to us directly.
The judges decisions are final and may not be disputed. This also holds true for critics if the film or screenplay review option is selected. The contest and its coordinators may not be held responsible for any errors or omissions by the judges.
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim made by you or any third party due to or arising out of project(s) you submit to this contest. You understand that there are thousands of writers and film-makers and the similarities in story, plot, characters, etc... of two or more films are certainly a possibility. The contest directors and judges will not knowingly share your submission with any third party.
Please see below for additional rules that are specific to the different contest types.
