Director Statement

In Asian culture, the image of a father is often portrayed as someone who is not good at expressing care and is reserved in words. This may be due to long-standing stereotypes and societal expectations. Many father-child relationships are not as intimate as those between mothers and their children. However, the love for their own children is no less than that of mothers. Due to the constraints of their upbringing and societal expectations, these feelings are often difficult for fathers to verbalize.

If we could provide fathers with an identity that allows them to establish a connection with their children without being limited by the stereotypical father figure, would it enable fathers to express their love more freely? This reminds me of my own childhood. My father would often watch various cartoons with me, even willingly accepting themes like magical girls that are typically favored by little girls. This shared entertainment became a bridge between my father and me. Although my father rarely showed his emotions and care, this was his way of expressing love to us.

Drawing from these experiences and reflections, I have conceived an image of a father. In order to help his daughter, who is grieving the loss of her mother, regain her smile, he is willing to play a completely different role and heal her wounds in his own way. At the same time, it strengthens the bond between him and his daughter.
