Writer Biography - Diane Lansing

My becoming a writer began when I studied acting with the amazing Larry Moss. He taught us to break down scripts beat by beat with deep character study. And most importantly, if things weren’t going the way you liked as an artist to REINVENT yourself! I thought writing the short play, “ON THE VERGE OF,” which I produced at the Electric Lodge in Venice, was for my friends and for me to act in. Instead it was the seed planted for me as a writer and I’ve never looked back. Well maybe a couple times, but with love.

One of my ten-minute plays, “Reckoning,” won the ATHE Award and I’m now reworking it to be a One Act. I REINVENTED!

After writing a few more plays, I segued to writing screenplays because I also love film. When a dear friend, Diahann Reyes, asked if she could use one of my short plays for an acting tape and for me to direct it, I said sure! I REINVENTED! I learned so much by making the short film, “Out Of Her Element.” Our team garnered a Laurel and screening at The Edge Film Festival and L-Dub Film Festival.

I joined Women In Film PSA program to learn more about directing and collaborating. I directed “Cradle To Career,” a PSA for the City Of Santa Monica. And the PSA I wrote, “A New Way Of Life,” won an Aurora Award. During that time a group of us made a short film I directed “guerilla-style” called “The Perfect Date.” This was a great learning experience as I navigated much of the post production.

I joined Mariya Pyter to jump in as writer/producer for the short film “Danny Danielle,” which she directed for the 48Film Project. We were top 16 winners and screened at the Directors Guild where we went home with two awards.

All the while I kept writing and studying and putting my work out there.

My screenplay “WE THREE TEENS” was a Page semi-finalist.

With my screenplay “WONDER AND LIGHTNING,” I won the International Screenwriters Association fellowship to Stowe Story Lab. And I was one of ISA’s Top 25 writers to watch in 2019.

“WONDER AND LIGHTNING” was also a second rounder at the Austin Film Festival and semi-finalist with ScreenCraft Drama Contest.

I was so lucky to get to go to the Rocaberti Writers Retreat in France. And with a scholarship for my newest script, “DR. JACKIE & MS. HEIDI,” to boot!

Soon we will be shooting the short film “TRUST” that I wrote and will be directing with an amazing cast and crew. Stay tuned, more REINVENTING to come!
