Born in San Jose, California and now a resident of San Luis Obispo County, Matthew Baca is a filmmaker and photographer who took the route less traveled when it comes to his craft which embodies his visual storytelling.
"I was given my late grandfathers VHS Camcorder when I was very young and my brother and I would make silly movies with it. That eventually transpired into more modern equipment, learning how to edit (through Windows Movie Maker on a Dell PC), and then I'd watch it all back with my family, friends, and classmates. I tried the college thing and but quickly realized that it wasn't for me. So, I joined an internship with a local production company and from there on out my career just kept growing. It still is!"
I'm not sure how this short film transpired but I know it was something that I was supposed to make. As with everyone in 2020, it was a challenging year for me. I lost my job due to the pandemic, my wife and I separated, and I was left homeless for a month when I first started editing this film in a friends garage. "MMXX" is not only a reflection of that year but also a reflection of myself.
