Experiencing Interruptions?

MIRAGE

In a life inundated with boundaries, the most difficult to overcome is the confinement of the mind.

The film Mirage follows Dancer as she battles the conditions that keep her bound.

Dancer is sometimes victorious and creates moments of freedom.

These bursts of exuberance contribute to her growing anguish. As each scene develops, she finds herself in a more constricting state than before.

Director Statement

What better medium than dance to evoke the feelings of
an incarcerated mind, body & soul.

Approaching this piece I wanted every movement to
represent one's freedom being challenged.

The music chosen was without conventional melody or
strings of chords in order to reflect the narrative.

Percussion pieces derived from South Eastern Asian &
African instruments are the foundation of the
composition.

The tempo of the drums aims to guide the audience
through the dancer’s mind, as she attempts to
overcome what are perceived physical blockades.

Like a recurring nightmare, even when she succeeds she
always ends up in a more constricting environment. Like
a mental vise that tightens the more she struggles.

Will she be left crippled and confined? Will she
realize that is all just a Mirage? -
