Allia Louiza Belamri was born in Bejaia, Algeria in 1984. Trained as a lawyer, she moved to Algiers and worked as a freelancer in the audiovisual industry. At the same time, a committed visual artist, she has the chance to exhibit her works in various galleries.
Selected to participate in several residencies in collaboration with large NGOs (UN CISP...) and with her experience in the audiovisual sector, she began by producing in 2017, a video loop entitled "Yes for lipstick", presented at the “UN woman“, in which we understand that it is the woman who makes her choices and no one else.
She is particularly interested in the beauty of the human being, which she seeks to sublimate. She made her first documentary film in 2017 "Unique.dz" on people coming out of the social mold imposed in Algeria, thus wanting to break the clichés and show another look at her country.
In the process, she directed a very short experimental film "Lisptick choice" on the free choice of partner. Selected by the French Institute of Algeria at the "6th Laboratory of Algiers", she directed "Sorry Mom" in 2019, a short documentary on Amine, a young Algerian tattoo artist, torn between his passion and religious and family pressure. In 2021, she directed a documentary film “Living together in peace” for Caritas Algeria. In 2021, she is directing her first long documentary, currently in post-production, around a collective of Algerian street artists. Today, she is in full development of the writing of her first fiction feature film project "Beating".
As the director of this documentary film, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to explore the vibrant street art scene in Algeria and to share the stories of the talented and committed artists who are using their craft to express important social and political issues.
For me, the power of documentary filmmaking lies in its ability to transport viewers to new and unfamiliar worlds, to challenge their assumptions and preconceptions, and to inspire them to action. With this film, I hope to shed light on the unique culture of Algeria and the wider Arab world, to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions, and to celebrate the transformative power of art in society.
My strengths as a filmmaker lie in my ability to connect with my subjects on a personal level, to build trust and rapport, and to elicit candid and compelling stories. I have a keen eye for detail, a deep respect for cultural diversity, and a passion for social justice issues. Through this film, I hope to combine my skills as a storyteller with my commitment to social justice to create a powerful and thought-provoking film that engages and inspires viewers.
