Made In America
My only criticism of Black History Month (other than it landing on the shortest month of the year), is I feel its public programming limits the full spectrum of the contributions of Black Americans to the United States. Ever since I was in elementary school, I knew these achievements in excellence exceeded the same stories we would hear every February of civil rights leaders, athletes, and entertainers. There had to be more stories to tell. In particular for me, the discipline of inventing is where I always wanted to deep dive to find more of these stories to tell.
This documentary short film you are about to watch is the result of 20 plus years of dialogue between my Moms, my late Grandmommy, and myself. This is a narrative I always wanted to contribute to the Black History (A.K.A. American History) conversation, but did not have the skill set or knowledge to do so until recently. These are the stories of unsung Black American inventors and how their genius has greatly impacted all of our lives.
Born in Black, baptized in blood, creatives in commerce. Made In America.

Inspired by the melting pot of influences that is his hometown of Los Angeles, California, Musician/Filmmaker/Broadcaster Charles V. Nunley IV, professionally known as DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL,” is
focused on developing and presenting the absolute apex of a creative experience by gravitating the mind, body, and soul.
This intended experience shines through as a founding member of the Hip-Hop group, Honor Flow Productions. Known for their commanding live shows, relatable songwriting, and melodic, yet thunderous soundscapes, the trio prides themselves on breaking the boundaries of contemporary music and pushing into new territories their way. It is with this elevating mindset and reputation that has led H.F.P. to perform as a band and as DJs at historic venues such as The Greek Theater, The Wiltern, The Troubadour, The El Rey Theater, The Roxy Theater, The Regent Theater, Microsoft Theater, Avalon|Bardot Hollywood, The Echoplex, and a headlining Summer 2019 tour in Japan entitled The Nice To 三つ:ミツ Tour. Chuck has also been a go-to selecta for private events and organizations such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, The Annenberg Space For Photography and Vanity Fair.
Currently Chuck, alongside his H.F.P. bandmates, Paul “ELIMN8” Parker and Lord “DJisLORD” Advincula, are promoting their latest album entitled The B.L.A.C.K. Odyssey; an eclectic body of work that presents the trio’s modern thesis on the concepts of personal freedom, self-discovery, and the journey to life’s joys. Honor Flow Productions’ music has found its way to various media platforms including broadcasting and film; appearing in the 2014 Sundance Film Festival breakout hit, Dear White People.
Chuck has also recently stepped into the realm of filmmaking; directing and editing documentary films such as Made In America (which tells the stories of unsung Black American inventors and how their genius has greatly impacted all of our lives), Going Live (which details COVID-19 pandemic's impact on the live music business and the rise of digital performance platforms), and the aforementioned The Nice To 三つ:ミツ Tour (showcasing the sights and sounds of Honor Flow Productions’ Summer 2019 tour in Japan that doubles as part concert film, part road trip journal).
Including his creative work in the public eye, Chuck has also honed his craft behind the scenes in radio broadcasting, music journalism, live production and artist consulting. This includes runs at 94.7 The Wave, K-Earth 101, KROQ, Apple Music, Soul Train, KXLU, KMCU Marymount Radio and MojaMoja. All of Chuck’s creative passions breeds beauty for your ears, food for your soul, and exercise for your feet.
