I believe that in order to be successful, art should be visceral. It should leave no part of you untouched.
A fiction writer by trade, Chicago artist Molly Franklin began writing for film in 2019 after a friend asked if she would trade mediums and try writing a successful short in three month's time. She hesitantly agreed, not sure if her time-bending, segmented narrative would work for film.
She was pleasantly surprised that not only did it work, but it worked well.
That first script, "Heirloom" was produced and premiered at Talus Films "12x12" festival where it won Fan Favorite. Since then, she has written nine shorts and one feature length film and has been listed by Camera Ambassador as one of the top femme screenwriters to work with in Chicago. Since March 2021, seven of her scripts have been recognized in nineteen different competitions and festivals, with awards ranging from semi-finalist to category winner. She is hopeful for the future as she continues to learn and grow within the cinematic world.
"I believe that in order to be successful, art must be visceral," She says. "It should leave no part of you untouched."
