Alberta

The music video "Alberta" is part two of the four part audiovisual series titled 'PHASES' from the artist duo MEMBA (Ishaan Chaudhary and William Curry). The video is about loving a place so much that you do anything for it. Contrasted with part one of the series, the characters of MEMBA esscape from a dark and terrifying world into a psychedelic landscape, where they explore a more lush, warm and melodic environment.

As for the song, MEMBA wrote this song in Portland, OR - inspired after a long hike by a waterfall. They recorded themselves shouting and playing guitar, making the intro feel really alive. Rhythmically, MEMBA took a different approach to this song, building it on a South African inspired polyrhythm. After showing the song to Tzar, they were able to finish the whole thing in about a day, allowing the song to really write itself. “Alberta” is named after a street in Portland - “If you know, you know."

The four part series of PHASES was released every full moon from April - July 2021, and explores new depths of the MEMBA universe. The project celebrates the natural cycles all people, and matter go through - be it you now VS past you or particles turning from solid to liquid to gas. We all go through changes.

The music videos are co-directed by Ishaan (one half of MEMBA) and LA based VFX artist Jreams. There is a strong visual narrative that the EPs explore. The MEMBA boys self funded and planned every detail of the music videos, from making the props, to shooting it over the course of 5 days in undisclosed locations around New York City.

For MEMBA, music is a fully multi-sensory experience meant to stimulate the senses and reflect their state of mind.
