Am Ferdinand Niyongere, known as FRED BAHEZA. Fred is a Burundian born writer, Actor, Producer and Director, based in Perth Western Australia. Fred grew up in Tanzania after his family fled during the massacres in Burundi in the 1990’s.
In 2007, he moved to Australia and continued his secondary studies at North
Lake Senior Campus, in Perth. In 2010 after completing his secondary
studies, he moved to Melbourne to study Film and Television at Chilshom
Institute Frankston. In 2012, he returned to Perth, Western Australia where he
began working as a producer. During that time, he produced music and
wedding videos.
In 2013, he visited his homeland, Burundi, and made his first feature film
called Mama Mkaidi, a film that tells the story about the conflicts between
children and parents caused by inheritance. The films featured a combination
of great Burundian and Tanzanian actors. It was voted as the most watched
film in Burundi and won the award for best film.
In 2014, he wrote another short film which was produced in Western Australia
called Culture Shock. The movie focus on the importance to integrate when
you immigrate and embrace the culture of your adopted country. Culture
shock was screened at various separate occasions in Australia and Africa.
In September 2014 Fred was given an award as the Best Upcoming Film
