The Afro-German director and dop Timmi Kwaku Davis dedicated himself to film in 2007. He made his first experiences at the company FUFFIEFILM as an editor of music videos and documentaries in the german hip-hop music scene. Since then he has been involved in over 300 short films, feature films and commercial productions as a director, dop and cameraassistant.
Out of the enthusiasm to realize his own visual and narrative ideas and to reflect on his identification as an Afro-German filmmaker, he started writing, directing and producing his own short films in 2010.
His films are screened at international film festivals.
From now on, he focuses on the defragmentation of black stereotypical figures in German film as inspiration and source of his artistic work.
In 2018 the writer/director duo Kwaku&Aman was formed in collaboration with his friend and author Emanuel Aman Tessema. This collaboration resulted in a short film on the subject of tokenism in the German advertising industry "Ferbung" and a short film on the subject of decolonization in Senegal "Mon Pays".
His curent project " Mama Liebt Mich" shot in August 22, managed to position a black filmmaker in every department. The Black German family drama is about the consequences of patriarchal social structures and their impact on images of masculinity and toxic behavior.
Timmi Kwaku Davis has been an active member of the short film association Hamburger Kino e.V. since 2010. Due to this membership he attended many international Kinokabaret (film festivals where short films are shot in 48 hours). He realized projects as director and dop in Shanghai, Tel Aviv, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Dijon, Bordeaux and Tokyo.
In 2019 he organized the first international Kino Kabaret in Japan/Tokyo, in which 50 international independent filmmakers took part. https://www.facebook.com/japankino
He was part of the film workshop management in Burkina Faso (2017) and Senegal (2018) in cooperation with Hamburger Kino e.V. and the Goethe Institute.
In 2019 and 2022 he was part of the film workshop management at the Dulsberg school (Hamburg) in cooperation with the youth association jaf e.V.
Since Octobre 22 Timmi Kwaku Davis started his master's degree
( Art in Context ) at the Berlin University of the Arts. In the field of media and scientific image production, he will deepen his artistic work as an Afro-German director.
I am proud to present this film to be part of an activist movement. When Black filmmakers take the spotlight in front of and behind the camera. This project is a self-reflection on the feeling of not being seen and the effort it takes to be recognized by the people you look up to. We produced this film with a black team to tell the story from our perspective. We deliberately didn't want to talk about racism in our film in order to show that Black Germans also deal with other topics. Topics that have nothing to do with their outward appearance. Black Germans, like everyone else, have feelings, concerns, and dreams that do not follow a political agenda but need to be negotiated with their families, relationships, and friends. These stories, told from their own perspective, must also have their place and justification in a white majority society. This project is a start to push this movement.
