MA/IN is an international festival devoted to experimental sound art, audiovisual art and live perfomance. The mission of MA/IN is to provide local and regional audiences with an opportunity to view a wide variety of contemporary experimental works, focused on artistic excellence, different styles, forms, and nationalities.
Since 2016, in collaboration with regional/national institutions and part of the cultural program of Matera 2019 European Capital of Culture, MA/IN festival offers a program of live cinema, performances, live sonorization of classic silent film etc.
The festival is organized by LOXOSconcept, a non-profit cultural centre, active in the realization of experimental movies, sound art works, artistic installations and promoting research into the aesthetic, analytical, musicological and scientific aspects of music.

MA/IN Festival is opened to artists who want to submit experimental works: acosumatic music, elelctroacoustic music, video performance, expanded cinema, experimental animation, multimedia art, sound art e and mixed media music.
The festival is open to artists and composers of any nationality and age.

An international jury will selected the artworks to be screened. Only selected works will be in the festival’s program. The festival includes 4 different categories.

Official Selection: selected works will be performed during the festival and included in the officla festval program and booklet.
Award Winner: The winner will be invited to accompany their work to the MA/IN festival and accommodation expenses will be covered by the Organization.

The festival has two active collaborations this year with
The CRM (Centro di Ricerche Musicali) of Rome and with TempoReale (production center – Florence) will plan a special scheduling of the ACOUSMATIC and AUDIOVISUAL selected works , during:

Il MA/IN è un festival internazionale dedicato, all'arte audiovisiva, all'arte sonora sperimentale e alle performance dal vivo. La missione del MA/IN è offrire al pubblico locale e regionale l'opportunità di visionare una vasta gamma di opere sperimentali contemporanee, incentrate sull'eccellenza artistica, su stili, forme e nazionalità diverse.

Dal 2016, in collaborazione con istituzioni regionali/nazionali e come parte del programma culturale di Matera 2019, Capitale Europea della Cultura, il festival MA/IN propone un programma di cinema dal vivo, performance, sonorizzazione dal vivo di film muti classici, ecc. Il festival è organizzato da LOXOSconcept, un centro culturale no-profit attivo nella realizzazione di film sperimentali, opere di arte sonora, installazioni artistiche e nella promozione della ricerca sugli aspetti estetici, analitici, musicologici e scientifici della musica.

LOXOS~ promuove l'ottava edizione del MA/IN - 2024. Il MA/IN avrà luogo nel sud Italia:

Il Festival MA/IN è aperto agli artisti che desiderano presentare opere sperimentali: musica acusmatica, musica elettroacustica, performance video, cinema espanso, animazione sperimentale, arte multimediale, arte sonora e arte mista. Il festival è aperto ad artisti e compositori di qualsiasi nazionalità ed età.

Una giuria internazionale selezionerà le opere da proiettare. Solo le opere selezionate faranno parte del programma del festival, che include quattro diverse categorie.

Selezione Ufficiale: le opere selezionate saranno eseguite durante il festival e incluse nel programma e nel libretto ufficiale.
Vincitore del Premio: Il vincitore sarà invitato ad accompagnare la propria opera al festival MA/IN, e le spese di alloggio saranno coperte dall'organizzazione.

Il festival ha quest'anno due collaborazioni attive con il CRM (Centro di Ricerche Musicali) di Roma e con Tempo Reale (centro di produzione – Firenze). Sarà pianificata una programmazione speciale delle opere acusmatiche e audiovisive selezionate durante:

1) Festival "Artescienza 2023": luglio 2024, Goethe Institut - Roma [acusmatica / audiovisiva]
2) Festival Tempo Reale: settembre-dicembre 2024, Tempo Reale - Firenze [acusmatica]

Awards & Prizes

* AWARDS of DISTINCTIONS | one per category | The jury reserves the right not to award all or any of prizes, as well as to award ex-aequo prizes if it sees fit. The jury can also assign some Honorary Mentions.

GRANTS
• #3 Max/MSP 8 | full licenses (or upgrade) granted by Cycling’74 (usually for category winners)
• #1 Toruch Designer | granted by Derivative (Category C winner)
• #1 GRM tools Complete II | granted by INA GRM:
the plugin bundle is splitted into four separate prizes:
“GRM Spectral Transform” / “ GRM Classic” / “ GRM Evolution”/ “ GRM Spaces”
• #2 Live 12 Suite | granted by Ableton

The MA/IN organization will :
- Make available a fund “travel grants” of 3000€ in total in order to support selected artists (first of all winners and honourable mentions ones);
- provide AudioVisual Recording for live performances;
- publish the MA/IN 2024 digital booklet;
- realize a MA/IN 2024 digital mixtape (for acousmatic
music);
- provide professional musicians and technical support.

L'organizzazione del MA/IN :
- metterà a disposizione un fondo di 3000 € in totale al fine di supportare il viaggio degli artisti selezionati (in primo luogo i vincitori e gli artisti menzionati);
- fornirà registrazioni audiovisive per le esibizioni dal vivo;
- pubblicherà il booklet digitale del MA/IN 2024;
- realizzerà un CD digitale MA/IN 2024 (per la musica acusmatica);
- fornirà i musicisti professionisti e il supporto tecnico necessario.

Rules & Terms

Registration for the Festival competition, takes place exclusively through FilmFreeway
The festival registration fee is :
€15.00 for each work before the March 3rd, 2024 (EARLYBIRD)
€25.00 for each work before the April 14th, 2024 (REGULAR)
The call this year is FREE of charge for Ukrainian artists

+ Taking part at the call for score, the artist declares to be the author and exclusive owner of the submitted work.

+ By submitting, the participant filmmaker/artist acknowledges and agrees that if selected for the festival - their film will be screened in a live venue in front of live audience.

+ It is possible to submit one or more works. The submitted work may have been performed in concert.

+ Artists submitting works should create and submit STEREO MP3-formatted audio files (also for multi-channel works) or video files (via an online accessible permanent link) of their works.

+ Technical specifications for performance and scores should be submitted as well, in PDF form. Installation proposals must include a spatial/physical diagram.

+ If any additional equipment is required, proposals should specify what can be provided by the artist/composer and what the festival is expected to provide.

- By submitting, the participant filmmaker/artist acknowledges and agrees for the MA/IN Festival to use publicity material (film, production stills, posters, clip etc.) from selected films to promote the festival in print and online.

- Selected works will remain in the archive of the festival and be used during screenings; details of screenings will be communicated to the artists prior to the event;

- All selected works will be promoted through our social media and website with a dedicated page with synopsis, film stills and trailer. For this purpose, we recommend that projects must be fully entered on FilmFreeway, including film stills, production pictures, downloadable poster, and trailer or teaser.

- The Artist certifies that she/he is the sole author of the Artwork, that this is an original work that does not copy other preexisting works.

- The personal data supplied by the artists will be treated in accordance with Law 675/96 (“Privacy Policy”), the Legislative Decree n. 196/2003 (“Privacy Code”) and the art.13 Regulation EU 2016/679 (G.D.P.R), even for inclusion in databases operated by the LOXOSconcept cultural association. Any television, radio, recordings, and broadcasts of the works participating in the award for the promotion of the artists or the festival itself through marketing and communication are authorised by the artist without any additional obligation for the organization and without prior request of consent from the artist.
