Director Biography - David Teixeira

David Teixeira is a filmmaker who was born in France and has lived most of his life in Portugal. In 2012 he co-created a documentary for TV about migration and the idea of comfort for the people who travel called “HABITAT” that premiered on national television in Portugal and was officially selected on a film festival in Spain.
Since then he migrated to France to live in Paris. In 2016 he decided to live in Bordeaux – where he was born – and he started to write, produce & direct his first horror short-film GIRLS NIGHT. GIRLS NIGHT was selected to film festivals such as Video Nasty Film Festival in Seattle, Stockholm Independent Film Festival and Midsummer Scream Film Festival in LA and has received the honourable mention at the London x4 Seasonal Shortfilm Festival. David wrote and directed GIRLS NIGHT 2 in 2017, which is a direct sequel of GIRLS NIGHT and he edited both shorts together bringing life to GIRLS NIGHT - ANTHOLOGY which is now available online on Amazon Prime.
After working with his friend Lea N’Kaoua for her demo reel as a circus dancer, he decided to work again with her on a horror project called OUROBOROS which came alive on a collaborative state with N’Kaoua. The horror short was shot in two days and was an intensive and rewarding experience.
After OUROBOROS, David and Lea teamed up again for MANNEQUIN (a body horror experience about beauty and how it affects women in society).
In 2019, after working on MANNEQUIN which is still in film festival circulation, Lea wanted to explore the OUROBOROS monster character even further, so they both decided to work a new project called MATER, which is a prequel to OUROBOROS.

Director Statement

MATER may be my most ambitious project to date. Me and Lea, the star and co-creator of the movie, we wanted to explore the truth behind OUROBOROS and its characters.
Creating an all new universe, we shot MATER in three days on a forest nearby, and we gave all our energy into it to bring fear, loss and religion alltogether. I wanted it to be visually clean and polished yet raw and messy. We both are attracted to witchcraft and we were inspired by movies like The Witch, The Ritual and TV show American Horror Story. It's visually mesmerizing and intense, we focused on the growth of Evil on a religious person, so it goes beyond the "possession" type of movies. It's more real, personal, intimate and uncomfortable.
MATER inspired me to start working on a feature film. This experience was definitely defining and I feel more confident than ever.
