MAATI

Father of a single child struggles to provide one meal a day. The hardship and the negative stereotype towards the Miya community is a major issue in the state Assam, India.
Our farmers looses land each year due to flood or other natural calamities. A farmer without land. How will he survive?
When the father is given a choice to pay the loan or sell his own child to slavery. What will he do ?
These are some neglected questions which should be in the limelight to protect the farmers as well as the immigrants of our region.

Director Statement

Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.
I have decided to make Maati my first film because the Miya community in Assam is really looked down upon. I am born in an Assamese family and since my childhood somehow i have seen our community have negative stereotype towards the Miya culture and often think of them as low class.
The community is a small immigrants that live near the Brahmaputra river. The way they live there life is still unnoticed and neglected, hence people used them in a bad way for personal gains. I wish to bring this matter to the limelight so that our governments or NGOs take some measure to protect the community.
