Director Biography - Boon Kia Meng

Boon Kia Meng is a Malaysian documentary filmmaker and academic known for his work on socio-economic issues in Malaysia. In addition to his filmmaking, Boon has been involved in academia. He has lectured in sociology, philosophy, and film studies at universities. His research interests include protest policing, counterinsurgency, and politics in Malaysia.

I believe that knowledge and works of art should be accessible to everyone because the social films I create wouldn't be possible without the freely available resources that others have shared. In that sense, when I make a film, it's not just 'my' film—it is truly 'our' film, belonging to the people.
