Rebecca Van Fraassen is a Toronto based painter, animator, and filmmaker. As someone with a disability, she looks at personal narratives to address themes of isolation. Her films propose the potential to exist in a different world than the one we inherit. For Rebecca, filmmaking is an invitation to think beyond the material world and instead hold a vision of the next one.
My films have always talked about loss. A subject I know well, yet remains one of the hardest experiences to describe. Mostly because of our vast fears of letting people down, or worse, confronting our own insurmountable grief. This film is about grieving love, destroying yourself, and facing loss.
While struggling with addiction, Lucky grasps at fragments of his past. He reflects on the immense chaos of his life through fleeting moments, forever altered by the harrowing effects of his mistakes.
I hope this film helps to describe the feeling when loss grabs your gut and rips it through your chest.
