Lucio Cascavilla was born in 1979, in Manfredonia, Puglia. After graduation in Chinese Language and Literature, at “L’Orientale” in Napoli, he moved to China where he started a rock band, while he was continuing to study Chinese Language and Literature (at Kunming Shifan Daxue- Normal University). For 10 years, he composed songs, recorded albums, toured around China and played at Chinese music festivals. In 2007, he co-wrote and co-produced the documentary about the band: The Italian Stallion punk band, filmed between China and Sicily. In 2008, he was one of the bloggers of Peace Reporter following the Olympic Games in Beijing. In the same year he wrote, together with Mauro Piacentini, the movie Goodbye, Beijing, Goodbye. In 2012 he published Punk road in China (a punk memoir of the wild years as rocker). In 2016 he published L'utopia del rispetto (a science fiction story), and in 2019 published Sogni, segni e sintomi, collection of short tales about China. In 2022 he published the Graphic Novel “Tre storie per non morire”, published by Morsi Editore.
In October 2023 his documentary The Years We Have Benne Nowhere, about deportation, shoot in Sierra Leone is coming out.
He has lived in Sierra Leone and DRC as a human rights activist and media developer, to support projects with local associations. In the last few months cooperate with different blog and magazine (Left, Neutopia, Spazi Inclusi, Sguardi Indiretti, Carie).
