Stephanie is a SCAD Atlanta graduate film and television student. She was born in Santiago, Chile to a Colombian mother and an Argentinian-Danish father. Stephanie moved to Maryland at the age of 4 1/2 where she resided until March 2019 when she decided to pursue her MFA degree at SCAD.
From an early age, Stephanie has been interested in films and how they are made. In middle school, she became interested in watching the behind the scenes and director's commentary on DVDs and YouTube to learn more about the magic of filmmaking.
During her sophomore year in undergrad, her passion for film grew deeper and she decide to pursue her Master's degree in film in March 2019. Since then, she has been gearing her interest towards film editing by editing her own projects and sharing her skills with some non-profit organizations. After graduating from SCAD in June 2023 she looks forward to contributing her skills to the entertainment industry and creating stories that will leave a lasting impact on the audience.
The idea of creating a supernatural fantasy adventure film has always been an interesting idea for me. When you add the theme of f finding the better version of yourself by performing selfless acts of kindness you create a universal message that teaches the audience the importance of kindness and how selfishness negatively impacts your place in society by pushing those who care about you away and eventually isolating you. This is what Love's Call is about. Learning to be selfless in order to build strong relationships with other members of society in order to become a successful contributor in the world. I believe that learning to be selfless is a skill that is not only learned at school but it should be learned from a very early age at home.
My personal attraction to this film is its theme and its genre. From a theme standpoint, this film teaches the audience to be the better version of themselves and how one act of kindness can come a long way. My target audience aimed towards children however, this film is a universal message for anyone. I want to make this film because I was inspired by Disney films which are always trying to entertain audiences but also teach valuable lessons that the audience can take away from after watching it. I also take inspiration from the film Pay It Forward (2000) which is a film that has a central message of doing random acts of kindness for strangers. This film embodies the message I want to send to the audience. However, my film stands out from this one in the sense that although grounded in reality there is still some fantasy involved in order to make it more kid friendly. Finally, I also take inspiration from fantasy films and adventure films. These types of films in my opinion help to digest the theme and message of the story and also stay immersed and engaged in the film. Some of the adventure fantasy films I enjoy are the Seventh Son and The Spiderwick Chronicles. These films both portray values that are important to learn at an early age in order to be a successful contributor to society. The film Seventh Son has three main messages and two values embedded into the story. One of the main values that are embedded in this film is the value of selflessness which is what my film also embeds in its story. Seventh Son embeds this value by having the protagonist’s mother sacrifice her life to protect others. In my film I am embedding this value by having my protagonist go through her hero’s journey to discover how her selfishness is isolating her from the people she loves and then making up for it by performing various acts of selflessness in hopes of showing her appreciation of what her mom does for her and her sister. In the film The Spiderwick Chronicles portrays the value of relationship growth in a family. This value is also embedded into my story in the sense that my protagonist learns to appreciate her family more by spending quality time with her sister and also helping her mother in anything she can. These films have helped me to better understand the genre of fantasy adventure and how the genre of drama can help to teach the audience a lesson that will help them be a better version of themselves once the film is over.
The goal of my film is to entertain the audience but also teach them the importance of kindness and respect for others. This short is intended to be family-oriented and have a feel-good spirit. I feel this is the type of film the audience needs today when the world is torn between war and illness. By incorporating the topic of respect and selflessness into my film, I believe the audience will be able to talk about the film during dinner conversations and also reflect on how their attitudes are affecting their relationships with others and what they can do to change and become a better version of themselves. The overall goal of this short film is to serve as a reflection of oneself and evaluate what qualities need to change to leave a positive footprint for future generations. After the audience finishes watching my film I hope they can walk away knowing that with selflessness and respect for one another one can achieve more than being selfish and disrespectful.
