The Love Your Shorts Film Festival celebrates short films in Sanford, Florida (located just twenty minutes north of Orlando).

We screen only short films under 30 minutes in length. Films are divided into different blocks for screening and the audience votes for their favorites.

The winning films from each block advance to a final block for a panel of judges to pick the overall festival winner. Winners of each block earn the festival's award, the "Monroe," an original piece of metal artwork named after Sanford's Lake Monroe.

At the end of each block a brief Q&A session is conducted between the filmmakers and audience members.

During the weekend LYSFF also hosts:
- Education Day, designed for seasoned and amateur filmmakers
- Opening Night Party exclusive to filmmakers and sponsors
- Sunday Filmmakers Brunch
- After Party at one of Sanford's famous watering holes

To support, promote and recognize the art of short film and its artists.

The winner of each competition block will receive a cash prize of $400 and our prized accolade called the "Monroe," which is an original piece of metal artwork.

The Best of the Fest winner will receive a Monroe award and a cash prize of $1,500.

We also feature our Screener Awards. Monroe awards (without cash prizes) will be given for Best Directing, Best Screenplay, Best Scene, Best Music, Best Cinematography and Best Male Actor and Best Female Actor.

1. The Love Your Shorts Film Festival welcomes short films in any style up to 30 minutes long. The year of production does not matter.

2. Films are divided into 9 blocks for screening: Opening Night, Animation, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Florida Flavor, Sci-Fi/Horror and "E" for Everyone. We curate an International Film block from the submissions to other blocks for a total of 9 blocks presented at the festival.

What a wonderful festival! I was unable to attend in person, but my mother and sister both went and were very impressed by the professionalism and quality of the films shown. The festival coordinators were responsive and attentive before and during the festival. I am honored that METAL DETECTOR was included!

  • Thanks to the fantastic team at Love Your Shorts Film Festival for putting on such a great festival! I was delighted to learn NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCES was an Official Selection. Sadly, I couldn't attend due to medical reasons. I will definitely be submitting future films in the coming years.

Sanford, a town north of Orlando in central Florida is beautiful and welcoming, so is its film festival. It's a closely-knit community. I have been impressed by how passionate and engaged the audience were, who have a fine taste for art, including theatre and films. The screening facilities are top.

It's an environment where everyone feels welcome, and respected. Many of the films are of high quality, such as sci-fi horror, comedy, in terms of cinematography, sound and drama

  • The BEST ever festival I've ever been to. If I could put 6* I would! Communication was good, the quality of the event itself fantastic, we had a great welcome party with an open bar and film maker lounge the whole time, great cinema to screen in, with lots of seats. The film selection was top, only quality films in all the blocks.
And I love that there are the audience awards as well as the jury awards. This is the best of both worlds. On top of that, they also have CASH prizes with a beautiful metal handmade Monroe Statue.
So as film makers we are looked after, our films are respected, there are people that come to see the films, the festival has tons of volunteers that help things to run smoothly, we get gifts, there are events, we even had a Sunday brunch together.
Brian, James and founders Nancy & Gene made me feel like part of the family and that was even before our short film Resurrection won Best Drama (audience) and then Best of the Fest (jury).
This festival is a MUST, they love films from all over the world and from all the genres. The money from submissions goes back to the film makers. If you have to chose one festival? This is the one.

  • On behalf of my small team of filmmakers, we want to say thank you to everyone at Love Your Shorts Film Festival for your extreme hospitality. Upon arrival, we were all welcomed with genuine warmth (and goodie bags!) into their tight-knit community. They treated all of the filmmakers to an opening night party, Sunday brunch, and closing party. They set up a filmmaker's lounge with snacks and drinks that was open all weekend and became a great place to network with others in the film industry. The theatre was beautiful, comfortable, and there wasn't a bad seat in the house. We left feeling like our film (and our little team) was respected for all of the hard work that it took to create it. We loved the entire weekend and cannot wait to return to Love Your Shorts!
