Sofie Jo Lebow is a filmmaker, artist, and poet living who uses dream-like logic to explore our inner worlds, demons, and the evolution of the self over time. She also happens to live with narcolepsy.
With a deep belief that the personal is political, she creates films that explore identity within society. As her style develops, Sofie is passionate about pushing the boundaries of cinema through experimentation with form and the integration of fine arts, including analogue and 2D animation. Her work emphasizes collaboration with other artists to create pieces where the creative process itself becomes a crucial element of the narrative’s emotional impact.
Previously, Sofie was a fellow in the 2022 RespectAbility Entertainment Lab, and her episodic script, "Means of Egress/Spiral Bound," was a 2020 Sundance Episodic Lab Second Rounder, in the top 10% of the Slamdance Screenplay Competition, one of the top 50 in the Cinequest Screenwriting competition, and on the Barnstorm Shortlist. She just completed a one-year intensive directing program at the Film and T.V. School of Performing Arts in Prague. Her recent film "Lost Pieces of Her" has been selected to screen at GRRL HAUS CINEMA, VASTLAB Experimental - VLX6, and the Taicang Art Museum. She currently works at a bookstore and studies at UMPRUM, where she is pursuing a Master's in Fine Arts with a specialization in Intermedia.
Love, Lacey Lane is my first narrative short film. It delves into online dating and how social media can blur the line between reality and fantasy. It's a story that begs us to question: are cyber relationships bringing us closer together or further apart?
As social media celebrity culture rises, we can assume a false sense of closeness with people we barely know, based solely on the story they share with us, leaving us to fill in the gaps with our imagination about who we think they really are.
Love, Lacey Lane is an exploration of the lies we tell ourselves and each other online, uncovering the intimate implications of the digital age.
