Mahela Hettiarachchi is a aspiring young film maker from Sri Lanka, who dream to do a feature film one day, for the movie fans of his country.
I'm Mahela Hettiarachchi, from Sri Lanka. I am 23 years old and currently studying for a LLB degree and a degree in forensic and criminal psychology. In addition to those things, one of my favorite subjects is cinema. As a result of my huge passion for the cinema, I started making a short movie in 2020.
I haven't got any formal education in cinema. I was tempted to study cinema on my own. As the opportunities for film education in Sri Lanka were very limited and I could not be satisfied with the existing courses. I used the knowledge I gained from online tutorials, watching movies, associating with people involved in cinema to make my first short film.
The name of the movie was "Sneha : The Black in Every Pink" and it was released via Youtube on 08th March, International Women's Day 2021. The story of the movie was about a young girl who is going to see her boyfriend, who had texted her after a long time. It is a short film in the genre of Romantic Musical Thriller. The runtime of the movie was 10 minutes. The film received a very high response and received a lot of appreciating criticism. Similarly, it was appreciated by many Sri Lankan film and teledrama creators.
The film was recently shortlisted for the Cinemaworld Asia's "Short" Film Festival. Accordingly, it will be telecast in the near future for audiences who speak 28 languages in 24 countries through Cinemaworld channel.
